In an interview on TV3, Brother Sammy expressed concern over the declining emotional engagement among women, attributing it largely to financial difficulties. Known as the Nation’s Worshipper, he emphasized that many women are resorting to “hook-up” (an urban slang for sex work) as a means to cope with economic challenges.
Brother Sammy noted that, historically, women were more likely to express love within romantic relationships. However, he observed a contemporary shift where financial security is often prioritized over emotional intimacy.
“A lot of our ladies have turned to ‘hook-up’ because of the economic hardship in the country. For real. At first, if you wanted to propose to a lady, you could tell her ‘I love you’ and she would reply with ‘I love you too’. Now, if you tell a lady, ‘I love you,’ she would reply with ‘My phone is damaged, give me money to fix it.’ Nobody has time for feelings again,” he remarked.
He also pointed out the growing trend of people leaving the country in search of better opportunities, adding, “If you go to the airport, it’s like everyone is running away from the country. We pray that things will get better.”
